I have been working at Union Pacific full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Advancement opportunities within the company are very prevalent
Pay is very good and the retirement for management personnel is second to none.

Cons

Work/Life Balance can be tough sometimes.
Moving around for promotions can occur every few years, thus it can be tough on families.

I have been working at Union Pacific full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

If there are any, I have failed to identify them.

    Cons

After they hire you for a promised 40 hour work week they then tell you you're 24/7 and mean it. The leadership in this organization is non-existent at all lower and middle levels. The benefits are paid by union dues and "tier 2" retirement contributions that you lose should you ever quit. .... i.e. this is not a 401k. The base salary is decent but once they get done taking out union dues and retirement (both required) you lose about 8k a year. This company is run by morons who are stuck in the past and think that because they have been around for 150 years they don't need to change with the times. Someone ought to clue them into Kodak and others. While the career opportunities are abundant, they are only abundant if you want to move or aren't interested in what you enjoy.

    Advice to Management

Train your leadership. The current programs aren't working!

I have been working at Union Pacific full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

It offers better than average insurance,as well as above average pay, and if your willing travel to places you mite not otherwise see.

    Cons

You are on call, so it can be hard to on your sleep habits. It is also hard to plan for events. And you also dont get to sleep in your own bed alla the time.

    Advice to Management

Dont forget just because you now have a title you are human just like the rest of us. And not everything is solved with a rule, sometimes things in life just happen.
