I have been working at United Airlines as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Friendly People
Great atmosphere
Leadership Experience
Fostering development and growth
Mixed work/Varied work locations(you don't always end up stuck in the office)
Flight benifits

Cons

Long hours(Depending on department)
Pay not as competetive with other engineering jobs.
Projects can end up with you somewhere away from home for months at a time.(could be a pro)

Advice to Management

Value your engineers with more competitive pay/incentive programs. The only thing that would stop me from working here is worrying about paying back student loans. Fix the problems with flight benefits.

I have been working at United Airlines as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

Pay is substantial, plenty of opportunity to grow career wise and to learn new skills. Flexible schedule and can work from home if necessary.

    Cons

Lots of changes going on right now due to the merger which can cause some difficulties but there is progress. There is a hiring freeze until the end of March so that was disappoitning to learn. Not sure the position will remain in Houston or be relocated to Chicago.

I have been working at United Airlines full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

All work groups from food service, customer service, flight attendants, pilots, etc wrokd very well together and enjoy doing so.

    Cons

For some some jobs like pilot and flight attendant, it can take a few years to "have some schedule security. You can be on reserve for many years depending on where you're based.
