I have been working at United Airlines full-time (More than a year)

Pros

A lot of different career opportunities and chances to work in varied groups throughout the organization. Numerous groups that each provide a whole different learning curve. A collaborative culture with a lot of great people to work with. Most people are personable and care about their co-workers.

Cons

Still some integration to be complete - specifically back office systems, which have been less of a priority in exchange for customer facing technologies after to the merger. While this is understandable immediately after a merger it is an area that needs to become a priority in order to improve management efficiency.

Advice to Management

Enable more decision making at lower levels. The organization can sometimes be a top down culture.

I have been working at United Airlines full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Global company, decent flight benefits, interesting work, above average pay

    Cons

Political, reactive and ineffective middle management. Company is more focused on overly complex short-term fixes than long-term strategy. Low employee morale at all levels of the company. Directors are more concerned with managing up to look good than make correct decisions for the company.

    Advice to Management

Eliminate political barriers and instill common sense decision making processes. Remove ineffective managers and instill a culture that is open and honest (don't just talk about it).

I worked at United Airlines as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

The department I worked in was enjoyable. Work culture is good in the divisions, everyone was helpful. Flight benefits amazing, United travels everywhere, almost.

    Cons

Evident gap between Continental and United, systems between both companies still have not been integrated. Top management difficult to reach since there are thousands of employees. Not stable job, common in the airline industry.
