I have been working at United Airlines full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Great benefits, good people -- personally, not work wise.

Cons

Senority based. Everyone looks down upon you because you're new. They don't give you a chance. Overworked. Greedy. Age discriminated.

Advice to Management

Listen to your employees more. If they do not like their job, or they are not challenged enough, find them a different one. Don't make them wait a year. Trust your employees to make decisions as they go and not belittle them later for making the decision. Don't sit them down for a conference everytime something goes wrong or something is not preferred.

I have been working at United Airlines full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good people, especially on the United side of this merger. Very Professional, on the United side of the merger. Concerned with actually providing a great product and sticking to their word with employees, on the United side of the merger.

    Cons

    Poor decision making.
Hostile environment if you disagree or have the audacity to suggest anything other than what management wants to do.
    Loads of scabs.
Management uses words a lot and seldom follow up with concrete actions.
Obviously run by a lawyer who is not a leader.
Inability to think outside a very small box.
    Peter Principle in action.
Centralized management that cannot be adaptive to real day to day operations.
Very immature management entrenched in their ways, no creativity. Like a child holding its breath.
Management that easily spends millions on itself but is overly stingy with its employees needs. Again, severe lack of leadership.

    Advice to Management

Become leaders or find someone to replace you who is a leader. Stop just mouthing principles you cannot back up. Take your hands off the wheel and let those who know what they are doing run the operation.

I worked at United Airlines full-time

    Pros

An opportunity to make some lifelong friends.

    Cons

The merger has destroyed the culture and atmosphere. The new management team is competely out of touch with active and retired employees. There is no compassion and respect for the human factor. The customers are leaving and looking elsewhere. A shame for the legacy UAL. Greed is the word to describe the New United Airlines!

    Advice to Management

Treat employees and retirees with respect. Work as a team throughout the company.
