I have been working at United Airlines full-time (Less than a year)

Pros

Extremely exciting company that offers a lot of career opportunities to grow from within. Leadership mentors those who want to rise within the company and the overall culture is excellent. A truly awesome company to work for and a lot of fun.

Cons

Management salary is often based off previous salary compared to competitive salary among new position, even if that means a considerably lower salary.

I worked at United Airlines as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Great people and positive interactions with most staff; pleasant work environment at UA's new Willis Tower location. Challenging opportunities presented with a reasonable sense of accomplishment.

    Cons

At the time, leadership was very focused on self preservation given the company's merger with Continental. Organization and focus suffered as a result.

    Advice to Management

It's all about the customer, their needs and expectations in a world where airlines are more or less a commodity. Differentiate!

I have been working at United Airlines full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Travel and co-workers has always been one of the most attractive benefits in working for this airline.

    Cons

With the merger the seniority level has risen to where it is more difficult to get on flights as a stand-by passenger. Layoffs influenced additional work load with less people. Company culture of family is disappearing. This has contributed to the steady decline in customer loyalty and satisfaction.

    Advice to Management

Be sure to focus on what matters - "the customer". Streamlining processes, busy paperwork and presentations sometimes can be a distraction of what is really going on - "the customer we just lost".
