I worked at United States House of Representatives full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Experience, Experience, Experience. There is no better feeling than to go into an interview for another job with this on your resume. This is especially true if you end up working outside of the D.C. area, or in any lobbying field. They also have an amazing student loan repayment program.

    Cons

The Pay. Like many jobs, Capitol Hill makes you scrape your way from the bottom. Don't expect to be a high roller working on the hill. However, the numerous events and experience make up for what they lack in regards to pay. Also, the hours are long, especially when in session.

    Advice to Management

Do more to encourage staff to participate in "Staff-dels" and be more encouraging when staffers wish to pursue higher education.

    Pros

Lots of action, feel at the center of the world, lots of younger, ambitious and idealistic types.

    Cons

Long hours, culture of workaholism, no real metrics for success, inadequate performance reviews.
