I have been working at United Technologies Climate, Controls & Security full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good ethics culture and good set of technological capabilities. Very process oriented. Many opportunities to build businesses if you are willing to take risks.

Cons

Revolving door of top leadership has led to lack of focus and direction throughout the business units. Poor organizational and leadership development. Career growth seems to be more base on who you know than how you perform.

I have been working at United Technologies Climate, Controls & Security full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They had a good education scheme were you could do 100% paid education. This was also a secure company to work for. They maintained their company car fleet well.

    Cons

The corporate culture was very bad. A lot of old boys not wanting this to change. There was a very high staff turnover. Internal pricing between departments caused the sell price to customers to be over inflated which made making sales very difficult. We were selling the exact same product at a much higher price most of the time.

The IT systems were also very bad. There was no CRM and the actual computer hardware was very old and slow.

Overall it sounds bad however if some of the old boys departed the company it would enable a change in the culture which would make it a great place to work.

    Advice to Management

I would stop adding margin to the products distributed by your internal purchasing department. I would also have a good look at the people who have been at the company a long time to see if they are working in the companies best interest or their own. It seemed alot of the time that they were worried about losing their job if new technologies they did not understand were introduced.
