I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Fascinating work. Great people to work with. UHG does a great job of hiring in talented, intelligent people. You often feel proud of your work; especially when it is the result of a team effort with amazing team members.

Cons

High management turnover rate. Management team (business group manager, director and SVP) changed six times in the 3 years I was there. Communication to those below the business group manager level is non-existent.

Advice to Management

Communicate company direction and goals to the lowest levels.

    Pros

Compensation is good and is why people stay.

    Cons

Poor benefits for a healthcare company, poor culture, poor leadership

    Advice to Management

Get the right people in leadership. Bad leadership breeds bad leadership.

I worked at UnitedHealth Group full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I made lifelong friends at this job which was meaningful and significant. It was easy to get hired at the time, and those that were in charge of keeping up company morale put a lot of effort into it, even if they weren't 100% successful.

    Cons

Frequent layoffs and a fast turnover, however, they did not replace employees that left. Therefore workloads were increased but not met with matching salary increases. Very small raises, few bonuses. Too many virtual employees. Didn't feel valued. Management did not work well together.

    Advice to Management

Pay your employees what they deserve so they stay at the job. People want to work there but they don't feel compensated. And if you are increasing someone's workload, give them the title and respect they deserve for taking on a leadership position, instead of taking advantage of their loyalty and commitment to the job.
