Pros

The pay is good compared to other customer service jobs I've had. The people were friendly and relaxed. There was enough time to get to know others.

Cons

There seemed to be little chance of moving to a different job or advancing from a current position. After a while, it felt stifling.

Advice to Management

Some more words of encouragement would help as well as more feedback as to what we were doing right rather than just wrong.

    Pros

Our benefits for employee stock purchase and vacation time are really great.

    Cons

Technically working on older systems , no support for new technologies like 64 bit OS's or state of the art software tools.

    Advice to Management

Hire more individual contributors that get things done. Too many managers and not enough workers. Also we change leadership every year and that becomes a big hassle.

    Pros

    - The training program is very good
    - Some Supervisors genuinely care about you
    - Most people (including myself) were pleased to be making what we made hourly
    - It became a team environment among the contracted employees
    - Department parties are always good for reconnecting with people because so much time was just spent sitting at my computer for 8-10 hours a day.

    Cons

    - Having your lunch stolen
    - Some people are difficult to work with. They will either avoid doing their job (and not be fired, some Supervisors barely look at the production tracker) or ask you a lot of questions because they didn't pay attention during training.
    - As a contracted employee I wasn't required to do anything extra, but it seemed like the production environment really took a tole on people because there is usually an abundance of work
    - Friends who are actual employees always complained about not enough opportunities to advance. They have been working for UHG for three years, and I started off at the same wage that they have. It was awfully demotivating to them.
    - Business functions change so much based on work levels on different departments, and other influences. It's difficult to figure out what to do when two supervisors in the same department give different instruction on what changes mean

    Advice to Management

The company would be better served if there was a way to make the employees feel more important. All the 'perks' that are offered to employees right now..PTO..department parties..ect. It seems like an odd way of showing employees that they are valuable and cared about. Offer more quantifiable things..benefits, bonuses, ect
