I have been working at Universal Hospital Services full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Good work / life balance, broad, expanding product / solution portfolio, strong market share, good reputation in the industry

Cons

Culture on the Operations side is becoming very toxic, and losing focus on the customer. Core rental business is eroding at a rapid pace, and value-added solutions are stuggling to fill the hole. Owners looking to cash out, forcing management to make short-term decisions at the expense of customers and front line employees.

Advice to Management

Focus more on the customer, and less on (unrealistic) margins. Return to the 'yes we can!' culture that made the company successful in the past, instead of turning down every order that on paper does not appear to be profitable.

    Opportunity to help the company succeed.

    Cons

    Some veterans of the company sabotage the newbie succee level. Also some veterans in high position has no degree and work to keep the newbie with degrees out.

    Advice to Management

    Do a better job of appointing leaders.

    Pros

    Stable company with good portfolio of products

    Cons

    -Leadership is not held accountable on operations side making it very difficult for the sales side to get things accomplished
    -Too many managers that have no clue about business or industry
    -Not much promotion from within or leader training
    -Below average comp plan very unrealistic

    Advice to Management

    Raise commissions and/or base salaries; Audit your managers to test their knowledge and skills; Training is horrid and not effective at all
