I worked at University of Calgary part-time

    Pros

Autonomy in the truest sense. Flexible hours, freedom to run with ideas, and the ability to plan your own path.

    Cons

Feedback from higher ups is frequently shallow. Being on your own is a double edged sword.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at University of Calgary full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Close to Canadian Oil & Gas center
    Easy to find job

    Cons

    No more good professors
Industry doesn't value research in oil and gas
Industry forces the university to give out BSc graduates and no more! They want fresh engineers and import technology from the US.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the number of graduate students
Increase the stipend of graduate students
    Hire more reputable professors
Separate Petroleum department from Chemical Engineering
    Fire some of the professors
