    Pros

Supervisors / Professors understanding of family / work balance for the most part. Good fitness facilities. Co-workers are friendly and respectful.

    Cons

Sometimes worked many more hours than supposed to depending on person you were working for. Parking situation is horrible and seems to be getting worse. Although healthcare paid for, UCI medical center give terrible care. Be sure to go somewhere else.

    Advice to Management

Workers and graduate students were basically the last to know anything so it would be nice if there was more communication.

    Pros

High degree of autonomy is a plus. There is also a very vibrant and involved community if you are willing to reach out and utilize it. Huge range of resources at your disposal.

    Cons

The job totally depends on who you get staffed under. National Science Grant projects are usually the best, but your superior can either make the project an amazing learning experience or rather droll.

    Advice to Management

Look into how the management chain interfaces down the hierachy. Good researchers don't make good bosses. Maybe some sort of rotational program could improve the experience.
