I have been working at University of Idaho full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

This is a small, friendly place to work, with many dedicated young faculty. Work atmosphere is not too pressurized, particularly since I'm working as a support staff.

Cons

Pay scale is quite low. Little flexibility for telecommuting. No upward mobility despite having a PhD.

Advice to Management

Given the low payscale, there ought to be a bit more flexibility in order to retain good employees. Money isn't everything for many.

I have been working at University of Idaho part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Great professional experience and lots of creative opportunity to improve the call center's motivation and retention. Hours are excellent for students, an average of 14 hours per week, and the evening time works great for class schedules. There are bonus opportunities and excellent management experience.

    Cons

There are anywhere from 30-50 callers to keep track of as far as scheduling, training, and tracking. Working in a management team of 4-6 people also creates difficulty sometimes in streamlining policies and procedures. The advancement positions have high turnover as well so the call center management changes frequently.

    Advice to Management

If the University would change budgeting to offer a more reasonable salary to the call center manager, they may be able to stick around for longer and actually make significant improvement over a long period of time.
