I have been working at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

A wealth of knowledge lies at your disposal.

Two categories of employment, Academic Professionals and Civil Service, offer great benefits in the form of sick and vacation time, as well as tuition reimbursement, medical, dental, eye care and retirement packages.

Employees are friendly and open to suggestion and hard work.

Cons

Campus employment benefits do not extend particularly far outside of the Urbana-Champaign area, and a culture of incuriosity surrounds off-campus employment.

Advice to Management

Find ways to shadow employees in all positions, to support in a manner that removes walls between management and workers. Build trust, tear down bureaucracy where possible, and encourage learning in all walks.

I have been working at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

You can be whoever you want - you can have fun, study hard, be connected, and learn many things outside of your curriculum. The material is tough, but if you come out of it alive, you'll be a better person.

    Cons

Competition can also be a con here in terms that some people take it to an unhealthy level. The location is nice except for the sketchy neighborhood bordering the NW campus area as there have been many crime alerts.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work in updating structures, being innovative, and definitely keep the cost of books down. There are brilliant students here that don't have the financial means to buy $400-500 worth of books each semester.
