I have been working at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign part-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    -compensation in Crop Sciences was
-assistantship was voluntary, so I didn't have to rely on it, which arguably raises the quality of teaching
-opportunity to directly teach students, not just grade
-being an international student did not slow things down (working actually had the benefit of providing me with a SSN, non-resident tax treaty benefits)

    Cons

-It's a teaching assistantship. Don't expect to get that much.
    -grading sucks
