I have been working at University of Iowa part-time (Less than a year)

Pros

This job (Student IT Support for the Housing & Dining department) has great job security and provides very good compensation for a student university job. You'll learn a lot of skills on the job (problem solving, trouble shooting, working together, prioritizing tasks, etc.) and it looks great on a resume.

Cons

For being a part-time job for students I can't think of any cons.

I have been working at University of Iowa full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Love what I do, but my boss is over bearing and gets the slightest bit upset if I show any initiative. Most people generally care about the institution ahead of their employment.

    Cons

Getting into a good department with competent people is a crap shoot. No one comes to work here for the money. I'm rarely allowed to learn from failure.

    Advice to Management

I was laughed at by my immediate supervisor for having an optimistic point of view about a challenging work development.
