I worked at University of Iowa full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

There's some great people who work in the chemistry department. Seek them out and you may have a good experience at this place.

Cons

Corrupted chemistry department- you may be asked to 'make the average grade come out to an A' if you TA. University regulations require TAs to work a maximum of 20 hours per week on top of their class and research load, but you'll work much, much more than that due to abuse of the system. Don't like it? You won't get your degree. That's how it works. Stay away- there are much better departments out there.

Advice to Management

Overhaul everything and treat your staff like human beings.

I have been working at University of Iowa part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I really enjoy working for the University Parking Office because they are very flexible with my class schedule. It's allowed me to gain a lot of experience in customer service and helped me build my problem solving skills.

    Cons

This department is currently short staffed so there are a lot more projects and tasks that are having to be completed out by inexperienced staff. The majority of the full-time staff is not helpful.

  2. "Good place to work"
