I worked at University of Kentucky full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

They offer a good benefits package.

    Cons

I spent one year as a faculty member and was never even given the opportunity to give feedback about administrators who were pitifully under-qualified to be supervising faculty or managing programs or students. When I inquired with the dean's office about where to provide feedback about my immediate supervisors, I was told that there wasn't any but they would keep that in mind for the future. When I inquired about curriculum, I was met with lack of understanding of what a curriculum is. In my dept, undergraduate student assistants worked in admissions, managed student grades and student evaluations, and were given authority over faculty on many occasions. Almost every aspect of the program went unchecked. I had very high student evaluations and annual review but left after one year, so discouraged about any prospect for professional growth or making the department any better. Filling classrooms with paying students was the bottom line.

    Advice to Management

Put some checks and balance systems in place. Don't hire qualified faculty until you can offer a professional environment, qualified administrators, a framework for curriculum and feedback on administrators.
