Negative Outlook
Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at University of Melbourne full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Good academics occasionally visit
Good location close to CBD
Slightly less bureaucratic than state government

Cons

Steadily increasing bureaucracy at the expense of productivity.
Full of lazy and uninspiring academics with low ambition
Not a good place for ambitions people
Excessive focus on advertising and manufacturing 'excellence' to attract foreign students
Decades behind the cutting edge in research

Advice to Management

You can't run a University like McDonald's. Re-orient the focus on substance rather than profit. The performance management culture and glossy brochures scare away good academics.
