    Pros

The stature of a world class university is helpful to build skills and create new things. The support for learning is high. There is improving infrastructure for better management, great benefits in spite of cutbacks, and good employee support programs.

    Cons

UM tends to be insular, silo-ed, territorial due to decentralization and traditional corporate thinking, enabled by big corporate consulting in certain sectors. Innovation can be limited to some of the best and brightest faculty. There is a tendency to keep people in classification boxes, so that creatives or innovative staff either leave or are shown the door, connected to ageism, cutbacks , low salaries or managers who become threatened as you gain in ability.

    Advice to Management

Don't pretend to be who you are not, your employees can tell. Allow those who report to you to shine, vs. threaten you.
