I have been working at University of Minnesota full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Benefits
    Vacation time
    Health care
    Graduate school

    Cons

The egos are crazy. There is so much crazy waste it is angering. Tons of overpaid management that do nothing. Tax dollars go to great waste. Very clique driven.

    Advice to Management

Cut the fat, be accountable, support your staff, be responsible.

  2. "Review from and Admin: Great benefits and resources, but not a lot of opportunity to move up."

    Disapproves of CEO

I have been working at University of Minnesota full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - The benefits are pretty decent
    - There are a ton of resources on camps, from places to eat to a post office to clinics and a movie theater
    - The location is great- along the Mississippi- so you're never very far from nature
    - Job security- once you're in, you could stay in that role for a long time
    - If you're full time, you can get 75% of tuition off. That is something I'm going to be sad not to take advantage of if/ when I leave!

    Cons

    - It's really difficult to move up in any meaningful way. "Promotions" tend to be lateral.
    - We just went through a wage freeze, so pay is not awesome.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of firing the people who are most inefficient, so that the good employees don't have to pick up the slack. It's just too hard to get fired here, which is good in a way, but I think makes some folks complacent.
