Pros
You get to help students in a direct and meaningful way which can be very fulfilling. Generally the culture at UMN is very positive, community-minded, and progressive.
Cons
Wages have not kept up with inflation and after you reach senior status there is little opportunity for advancement unless you want to go into a leadership position. Also the scope of the job is vast and it can take 3+ years to feel like you've mastered it. There's a high risk of burnout if you don't have work-life boundaries.
