I worked at University of North Carolina part-time (More than a year)

    Pros

You make great friends with your coworkers and get to meet tons of people that you walk across campus; flexible hours as far as working around school.

    Cons

Late hours, must be willing to work until 3:00 AM on school nights. It can get dull on weeks where there aren't many exams and thus few students in the libraries.

    Advice to Management

Strive to keep an upbeat attitude to your employees and choose your battles wisely when complaining about performance.

  2. "Solid academics and graduate training"

    Approves of CEO

I have been working at University of North Carolina full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Lots of biomedical core facilities expedite research. Program advisers are dedicated to student welfare and progress toward degree completion. Huge capacity to collaborate among laboratories and across disciplines.

    Cons

Individual PIs can be difficult. Management largely deals with individual conflicts as they arise and tends to have a problem with dealing with a PI who has chronic student and management problems.

    Advice to Management

Better feedback for students in a PIs lab followed up with enforcement or counseling for the PI as to how to better manage their students and come in line with the expectation and standards of the department.
