Approves of CEO

I have been working at University of North Carolina full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

Very smart, good people. Very collaborative atmosphere.

Cons

Everything takes 50% more steps than it should. The rules and regulations make everything harder, take longer, and in the end Cost more than it should.

Advice to Management

Where are we bound to the state, and where do we have autonomy to cut the red tape? If we want to cut costs vis-a-vis the Bain report, can we evaluate the costs associated with hiring a new employee (time, multiple approvals, EEO requirements, etc.) and opportunities lost in doing so, as well as Purchasing Department red tape? Well-intended, but extraordinarily inefficient.

I have been working at University of North Carolina full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Nurturing environment to better yourself intellectually. Fairly descent pay but still not as good as private sector.

    Cons

It is nearly impossible to get pay increases.

    Advice to Management

HR is impossible to work with when it comes to hiring.

  2. "Good experience at UNC as a research technician and a lab manager"

I have been working at University of North Carolina full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Employment security, good benefits including a decent health insurance.I find the atmosphere to be friendly and collaborative and have no complaints about the the PIs that I have worked for.

    Cons

UNC is a public school and the staff are state employees. As state's budget was being cut during the crisis, so were our benefits and in some instances salaries. We have not had a meaningful legislative increase in salary for at least 4 years.

    Advice to Management

I think upper management needs to do a better job making sure salaries stay competitive even if legislature is not increasing them.
