I have been working at University of Pennsylvania full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great scientific environment, it is easy to set up collaborations. Great speakers quality during various seminars. Great benefits package..

Cons

Compared to academia, pay is not good and not fair..You also have to fight very very hard to get promoted and get a better salary although HR is always trying to slow you down and reduce your salary (even if you bring lots of funding) because it has to be fair with other employees ! Let the people competent and motivated grow as much and as quick as they should !!!

Advice to Management

Help the people competent and motivated grow as much and as quick as possible !

I have been working at University of Pennsylvania full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Centrally located, many places to eat and many facilities are new. If you play things right, this will be a launch pad to a new job in another department or somewhere else. DO NOT stay longer than 1 year or they have you.

    Cons

Was in the Athletics department, what a nightmare. Most of management is corrupt/incompetent. Nothing is official, and you get cheated out of your vacation pay if you aren't careful. They play many games, but this is normal. No room for growth unless you are a lifer. Turnover is of course through the roof. Trust no one.

    Advice to Management

Stay there, they pay many of them to do nothing, and they just watch like they can't do anything about it. People going for workouts for hours during the work day, people leaving for weed breaks. I honestly would stay there if i was management, young people who work hard will be demoralized in 3 months or less. You all know about the incompetence of several of your people there who honestly need to be fired/retired. Good job you are the laughing stock of the university.
