I worked at University of Phoenix full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

lots of nice people who work here and really care about students. Nice facilities.

Cons

Most people in enrollment actually believe that they are there to help students. They believe that they are not sales people, like it's a dirty word or something. It's a sales organization and a "for profit" business, just like any other business. It's all about the money. It's ok to do what is best for the student as long as you get them signed up on their first visit. They say there are no "quotas" but there are, without a doubt. Mixed messages from management. Most employees, except for teachers, are 25-35. Two types of sales management-either hands off or hands around your neck.
A good place to work if you don't need any brush up on your computer skills, if you're young and right out of school, if you plan on going for your Masters (which is strongly encouraged) and if you don't want to be promoted. Several people at a time try for promotions which never come. No matter how good you are, you're told that you're too good at what you do in enrollment and you just need a few more years in that position to be ready for a management position.

They have been involved in a lawsuit for unethical practices which is on-going.

Advice to Management

No advice to management. As a group, you're not really interested in your employees...just the money.

I have been working at University of Phoenix as a contractor (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Classes, at times, are very fun and exciting. Cyclical, however. Depends upon students, teams and many other variables. Nice, new main campus building.

    Cons

Compensation for faculty members is the last thing UOP thinks of. Curriculum development efforts over time have declined considerably, unfortunately. UOP, for good or bad, believes its own marketing literature and hyperbole.

    Advice to Management

Management at UOP doesn't take advice. UOP management, does try to make you feel good about yourself, however.

I have been working at University of Phoenix full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

If you have a good manager, the job is adequate.

    Cons

As most other posts have described, it's not a positive place to work.
The mass exodus has started; this campus is down to about 40 Advisors.
    Pay is below area average.
Enrollment Advisors are reviewed on subjective skills instead of measurable skills
There is a lack of communication & trust between management & employees
There have been multiple lawsuits against UOP by employees for unethical behavior

    Advice to Management

I don't think management is interested in employee feedback.
AZ management needs to look very hard at this campus & make necessary changes
