I have been working at University of Phoenix as a contractor (More than 3 years)

    Pros

they leave you alone and don't seem to mind when you rewrite the prepared course outlines. The proprietary software is better than most online teaching platforms (much better than Blackboard, Moodle, or D2L), and the checks arrive like clockwork. Plus they always seem to have two classes at a time for me to teach

    Cons

the students are poorly prepared (though often eager)

    Advice to Management

don't change things too much. the learn by gaming thing, the new "pick your own assignment" thing, and all of the new flashy bells and whistles aren't needed.

I worked at University of Phoenix full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The pay was reasonable compared to the work - its not hard to dial a phone!
If you are currently pursuing your degree at UOP, they will pay 100% of your tuition...but it still doesn't make it worth it!

    Cons

The managers were not leaders, they were better salespeople than you. The atmosphere of the company was to get as many students enrolled as possible, which isn't always in the best interest of the students, which is a big part of why I left. The offices were very "clicky" and quite honestly, I'm too far removed from high school to deal with that. Also, management "highly recommended" (read: twist your arm like only your mom can do) OT to get ahead but would hold it against you if you only worked 40 hours a week.

    Advice to Management

Hire LEADERS, not just good salespeople. Also, GROW UP. This is real life - not high school. You can't win just because you are more popular. These people are trying to better themselves by going to school. You should hire and encourage people who care at least half as much.
