I worked at University of Pittsburgh as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

You'll get to add cool words/project names to your resume. You may get to meet well-known researchers, even if only because you're sent to fetch them items or pick them up from the airport. If you're lucky, you'll get to experience doing actual research (data collection, analyzing, discussion and drafting journal articles).

    Cons

It's a very ego driven and cutthroat area. Obviously Pitt has rec'd historically a large amount of NIH funding because of aggressive/groundbreaking research but it comes at a cost. If you're an idealist and go into the field doe-eyed...you will be shocked at the dysfunctional personalities (not to mention low pay unless you're coming in at the doctoral student level or higher). Rumor has it, its still the same good ole boys club/ivory tower setup and isn't likely to change anytime soon. Granted, depending on the researcher...your experience could be different. Avoid any of the studies associated with WPIC or the older adult depression clinic. Trust me. Especially if you're a young female. I've seen older male researchers treat them as they were less than nothing.

I have been working at University of Pittsburgh full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The faculty and staff are great, students are smart and engaging. Great facilities and resources.

    Cons

Parking in Oakland is difficult and expensive, some of the courses are really large (limiting personal interaction).
