I worked at University of Texas at Austin full-time (More than a year)

Pros

Excellent location - Austin is a busy, exciting place to live and work. Excellent benefits - Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance, which was extremely useful during my time working at the university.

Cons

Some parts of the research facilities feel very dated - a decade or so behind the state of similar facilities in other (even less prestigious) academic institutions.

I have been working at University of Texas at Austin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Training & staff development opportunties, respect for work-life balance, excellent benefits

    Cons

Lower salaries than private sector (and hard to get raises without changing positions or moving to a new department), dealing with bureaucracy (especially UT System policies and the havoc wreaked upon UT by the Texas Legislature).
