Pros

It is a top university where the students and the employees come from different countries. You can update your knowledge and learn to communicate with people.

Cons

Japanese people are very friendly, but sometimes they do not tell you what they really think. It is important to know about Japanese culture in order to communicate with them.

    Pros

I can learn a lot including Japanese and technologies at the university of tokyo as a ph.d student in EE department

    Cons

Most of japanese firms can not accept students who are phd from the universities. So in this sense the phd is not a merit for most of students

    Pros

Excellent access to information and top level contacts, especially in academia around the world. Excellent facilities. Efficient support staff. Numerous high level conferences on-campus with world famous personalities. Located at the heart of world's biggest, cleanest and safest city.

    Cons

Hierarchical management structure. Glass ceiling for foreigners even with Japanese speaking capability. Language barrier. Less cultural diversity. Low salary with non-transparent promotion policy. Too many mundane tasks for researchers and teaching staff.

    Advice to Management

Increase transparency. Make it easier for talented foreign staff to perform.
