I worked at University of Toronto full-time (More than a year)

Pros

At least in my experience:
- As much hands on work as you want
- Work can be as independent or grouped as you like
- Work your own hours, as long as you get your work done
- Good funding, never wanted for more research materials (within reason)

Cons

- Very dependent on your supervisor if you will have a good experience
- Sometimes hard to find courses that apply to your research
- Bureaucracy is always annoying, especially so at such a large university

I have been working at University of Toronto full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Work environment is a definitely an asset. Meeting people on a daily basis and interacting with many brilliant minds across three campuses. Workshops and seminars are an asset.

    Cons

University of Toronto is very stingy on all aspects of employment. The reason (from higher up) is because of its ties to St. George campus, who ultimately dictate funding and any expenses per department despite Scarborough operating as a separate institution. Not only staff have been let go, but entire departments also. The campus has tripled in size but the number of staff the same. Tremendous amount of politics, so much politics that it affects the efficiency of staff.

    Advice to Management

Management thinks it can run before it knows how to walk. Cutting back and operating on a low budget despite the campus' growth just shows corrupt upper level management.
