I have been working at University of Utah full-time (More than 8 years)

Pros

Great benefits and flexible schedules (provided your department allows this - most do). Understanding of work/life balance. Great Vacation and Sick. The pay is OK, but you have to negotiate well when you take the job since "raises" are only inflation adjustments - therefore you never make more unless you move positions.

Cons

It all depends on the department but there is a high concentration of unqualified managers with no people skills. It seems most have been rewarded with a managerial position because they were there long enough - not because they had the skills.

Advice to Management

Not sure any advice would be heeded.

I worked at University of Utah part-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Flexible scheduling and an acceptable way to get a better idea of what is actually done in research environments.

    Cons

No benefits and the pay isn't enough to assist you with a hospital bill should something go wrong. They're confident your parents's insurance will cover it.
