I have been working at University of Utah full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

University environment is free thinking. The campus is beautiful. Work culture is friendly and respectful. They provide very good benefits including free public transportation. The retirement package is the best ever. Training and employee development are excellent.

    Cons

The campus is divided up into many kingdoms where administrators battle for power and control. Teams and divisions are divided even within departments where much infighting occurs as administrators battle for power and control. Morale can be low. Pay is below market for similar jobs. Decisions are made by committee, including hiring. Lack of career path.

    Advice to Management

Hire managers and leaders who understand the mission and goals of the University overall and can demonstrate and communicate that vision to their employees and unify us as a team.
