I have been working at University of Utah part-time (More than a year)

Pros

Great schedule options to work with class schedule. Duties are not too difficult. Supervisors and managers are willing to help and teach. You have to sometimes be an acting-librarian, helping patrons find books, research articles, etc.

Cons

Sometimes it gets a little monotonous. And there's a steep learning curve for some things you have to help with.

Advice to Management

Give us more duties and responsibility and make raises available.

I have been working at University of Utah full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I've loved living in Salt Lake. Surprisingly great live music and restaurants for the size of the city. Many great coffee shops for studying. Counseling center is cheap and accessible.

    Cons

Difficult to find a supportive network to teach me how to navigate the combined female/engineer/graduate student roles. There are classes and resources, but many I didn't know even existed until later in my graduate student life. Many I discovered on posters posted in the library. Professors were tight-lipped and too PC when real, genuine advice was desperately needed about how to overcome obstacles. I felt dropped on my head. It's taught me to fight, but it's not my preferred method of learning. It's a university right?

    Advice to Management

Inform incoming graduate students about resources available, outline paths to success, and train young professors on effective and professional student-professor relationships that lead student retention and graduation.
