I have been working at University of Washington part-time (More than a year)

Pros

The pros are that you get to work on interesting projects and take tuition waived classes that lead to an advanced degree.

Cons

The cons are that the pay is extremely low and the work is done very inefficiently, resulting in very little work getting done per hour spent working.

Advice to Management

Either increase funding for research assistants or accept fewer students. Randomly running out of funding for a student in the middle of his/her degree is not acceptable.

I have been working at University of Washington full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

good benefits, pretty good job security, nice people

    Cons

Hierarchical, if you don't at least have a Master's degree be happy being the peon. Salaries are not competitive with the surrounding area, lots of people with too much to do, lots with not enough.

    Advice to Management

People with only B.A.'s and lots of on-the-job and life experiences have ideas too.

I worked at University of Washington as an intern (Less than a year)

    Pros

It is a great place to work, one of the best schools in the nation, and one of the best genetics research is being done here.

    Cons

I had some problems with my paperwork for my payroll. I thought I had all taken care of, but now I have to pay extra tax. I was told I am paying the full tax, but apparently I was not.
