I have been working at University of Washington full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Fantastic location---mountains, Puget Sound, great restaurants, bike trails, etc. Great colleagues and interesting seminars all year. Good health care and dental options.

    Cons

Little training for a future job. Stagnant salaries. Mandatory retirement contributions for employees in training positions (i.e., a pyramid scheme). Virtually no benefits other than health/dental. The cost of living is higher than average, but it's not impossible.

    Advice to Management

Look at the data and realize that you're training more "future professors" than there are professorships.
