Pros

The UW benefits are top notch.
The Foster School is growing and changing. 2010 forward will be exciting times.
Teamwork is highly valued

Cons

When you work for a non-profit, you ARE non-profit. The pay as a staff member is fairly low, considering the hours and education required.

Advice to Management

Increase the pay. Offer more advancement opportunities for staff. Professors are your bread & butter, but remember that without administrators to make it all work, it wouldn't.

    Pros

The store is on-campus, so it's convenient for students. They have a regular influx of new employees, so you'll meet a lot of people, some of whom are very cool. If you work in textbooks, you'll know when the best time to get a book at the lowest price will be.

    Cons

    Poor store and department management
    Pathetic wages
    Raises difficult to get
    Anti-union
    Inconsistent hours throughout the year
Influx of poorly-screened new employees every semester
Discount not competitive against online textbook prices
Lazy, incompetent employees treated much the same as the best

    Advice to Management

You should hire fewer people and work harder at keeping the good employees you have. Make sure you have what incoming employees will need to do their jobs available by the time they arrive.

"Job but no career at UW"

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

I work with people who are motivated and want to do good work. I can get time off when I need it; the hours are fairly flexible.

    Cons

Low pay and no recognition or performance reviews (so little opportunity to ask for a higher salary and discuss career goals). This isn't encouraged. Many talented people in science have left due to lack of funding.

    Advice to Management

Administration does not seem to be paying attention to the science/tech brain drain that is happening here. The foundation of the UW's reputation is medical research, but people are disillusioned and leaving for better opportunities.
