I have been working at Update Legal as a contractor (Less than a year)

Pros

Professional but laid back atmosphere; the cases are generally pretty interesting; convenient commute; overtime occasionally available. The fellow contractors tend to be friendly, interesting people.

Cons

The cons are the same as most other contract-attorney services. It is very boom and bust. You never know when projects will start and end. Hard to plan your life around them. The health insurance plan is very limited.

I worked at Update Legal as a contractor (Less than a year)

    Pros

They seem to have a larger volume of jobs than other agencies in NYC - especially considering the general slowdown in work because of the economy. The jobs range from short term (a couple of days) to long term (3+ months).

    Cons

Constantly rotating recruiters. Rates for temp paralegals ranging from $18 - $22/hr - very low. They have intensive policies and procedures - you have to attend an orientation at their offices before starting a job, but the client will tell you everything you need to know, so it's really unnecessary.

    Advice to Management

Pay recruiters more so they stay longer and develop deeper relationships with candidates.

    Cons

Tough to get that first project. Some people always on projects and others not.
