An ok side gig if you don't try to make it more than it is

      Pros

Flexible, you choose your own schedule, and lesson prep is minimal. If you do the lessons, quickly fill out the post-lesson assessment and leave, it's not terrible for the $15 or so/hour. Some of the kids are really cute and fun to teach. Fine as a side gig, but unstable and low-pay if you try to make it more than that.

      Cons

The hourly pay advertised is misleading. As an independent contractor, you earn only about 75% percent of what they pay you due to taxes. If they pay $20, you're earning $15. Working with little kids online can be intensive and energy-draining. The company went a bit overboard with the amount of props that were expected. The "cheerleader" type of energy they encourage from teachers did not work for me, and I found that my students responded better to simply an interested, genuine person.

        Pros

I had plenty of classes and never had issues with getting booked. Communication with Human Resources was never an issue, and pay was great at the time.

        Cons

The pay scale changed after I quit, and I don’t think I would return based off of the current pay scale.

          Pros

Easy to do from home. No commute, no child care, no savvy business clothes, no commuting in the snow, and the best part is every day is "bring your cat to work day!" My cat, Bootsie, loves my job as much as I do! No kidding, I've had parents post reviews on my cat! The kids love it! Payment is once a month. I don't mind that because then it its a big check. You know what to expect and money is in the account on time. I love the children I teach. It is amazing how close you get to the family from the other side of the world!

          Cons

You'll read that there is not enough work. I don't think that is accurate. I've been with VIPKID going on six months. My first contract is at an end. My first month I made $55.00. The next month I more than doubled that, and every month after has been going higher and higher. I am now teaching about five hours a day and making very good money for wearing pajama bottoms and an orange t-shirt. My monthly is in the four figure range. The thing is you have to give the parents a reason to schedule with you. Sitting around waiting for bookings to come is not good. You won't get far teaching only trial students; although, trial students become regular students and they will remember your smiling face. The trick to getting more bookings is to take advantages of their certifications in different areas. In November I got certified to do the major courses and my schedule is now completely and totally packed. I literally have a very full schedule, teaching around eleven classes a day. You hear a lot of complaints about missing classes. When you teach, even at a school, attendance is important. As far as online schools go, VIPKID is the most liberal. I could have worked with DaDaAbc and made a lot more money. Their attendance policy is HORRENDOUS! You are locked into a schedule that will not vary, cannot travel. I have two homes and I could only teach at one. My travel was stopped. VIPKID encourages their teachers to live a life. Its great stories for the kids. When I am at my place in Brooklyn, they are pretty amazed to see NYC. My students get to see a variety of things, which VIPKID was pretty smart to encourage their teachers to live a life.

I went through the final round of interview last Thursday with the CFO. It seemed to have went well, she said she'll talk to me soon. I haven't heard back yet. When is an appropriate time to follow up. And should I email the recruiter or the hiring manager?

        Customer Service Representative CSR

I had an interview this afternoon for a customer service position in a call center. The ad was very vague to begin with and at the end of it I felt like I really didn't know anything more about the job. When I asked about the starting pay, which was not published in the ad, they looked incredulous (they were doing on-the-spot hiring today) and then asked me "What's your range?" And only responded with "I think we could meet that." And still never gave me a straight answer. Is this a red flag?

        Software Engineer

I did my initial interview with a “better established” startup and they said the interview process is 5 interviews. 3 technical then 1 interview with the CEO then another technical interview. Idk about you but that seems like a lot of interviews and they said they want to do it as fast as possible in a short time span. Is this a normal amount of interviews? Is this a red flag? For a full stack software position 4-5 years exp how much salary should be the norm in a hcol area?
