Remote Broadcast Captioner - Remote Broadcast Captioner VITAC Employee Review

Pros

In addition to the many advantages of captioning versus court reporting (no transcripts, well-defined beginning and end times for writing, always working from home) Vitac provides a paid training period up to three months for qualified applicants, all computer equipment and software (except writer for those who use a machine). Full time is considered 25 hours of on-the-air time per week. I have been with the company just about six months and have found the staff professional, courteous and thoughtful. The recent acquisition of the company by Gores Group seems to be positive. A recent meeting with the CEO portends good things for this company.

Cons

As one might imagine, captioning for live broadcasting is 24/7/365. So one's work schedule may involve working some odd hours as well as weekends and holidays. There is currently no additional pay for working weekends and holidays.
