Pros

Good people and a great product.

Cons

New comp plans are putting caps on earnings and starting to phase down comp.

Advice to Management

Your sales force is coin operated. Your sales are only as strong as your sales team's moral. Case Study: see Dell Inc.

    No opinion of CEO

    Pros

    Great technology
Definitely one of the most visionary CEOs in the industry
Great under valued people in the field that put in all the work e.g. SEs, PSCs, TAMs
Great training on VMware products is easily available

    Cons

Acquisition is occurring at a very fast rate with little to no near term integration, make it very difficult to talk about products outside of the core product and paint an integrated story. The company seems to be VERY worried about Microsoft.
    Career advancement is very limited.
The majority of mid-level to senior-level management within the Reston office are ex-EMC from the old EMC. The have brought over the unhappy work culture with them.
Comp plans change half way through the year and are getting tighter and tighter.

    Advice to Management

The corporate office should look into changing the senior-level management in the Reston office.
The culture needs to change. Good employees are becoming frustrated with management.

    Approves of CEO

    Pros

    Awesome technology
Senior level management are at the top of their game
Arguably the Smartest CEO in the industry
    Great people in the trenches
Most people are willing to go out of their way to help.
Training and enablement is readily available.

    Cons

    Cronyism and nepotism runs rampant
Opportunities to advance your career are limited
Some account managers are absolutely clueless when it comes to the concept of "solution selling"
Mid-level management leaves a lot to be desired.
Changing comp plans are making it more difficult to make money.
Post-sales is not respected by the pre-sales organization.
Too EMC re-treads have brought the baggage to VMware; everyone knows EMC culture and unhappy employees are synonymous

    Advice to Management

Forget Microsoft, forget Citirix, disgruntled employees and attrition is Vmware's biggest competition. Please hire a consulting company to review, evaluate, and restructure the way the company looks after it's valued employees. There are a lot of good people that are extremely frustrated with the way things work. Just because someone is good at their job does not make them an effect leader.
