I have been working at VMware as an intern (Less than a year)

Pros

Projects provide opportunity to make a real impact
Strong team bonding
Excellent pay
Strong intern program
Free intern housing
Transportation pass
Free shuttle to work

Cons

Intern housing changes every year and may or may not involve a long commute.
Projects are very independent and you get as much experience and guidance out of them as you want and ask for.
Intern hack-a-thon lasted two weeks and did not provide a lot of motivation for participants to finish -overall could have been run better.

Advice to Management

It would be nice to have some more training on current technologies such as prototyping techniques and javascript libraries.

I worked at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Despite the IT geekiness of VM products as a whole, I've met some really good people who cares for the company and each other as individuals. At VMware, senior mgmt tries hard have programs to recognize and celebrate people's accomplishments.

    Cons

Still a very large company mentality , hard to move fast and implement change.

    Advice to Management

Move past "war-time" old school way of doing things. Hard to resonate with new generation of employees.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Good pay. Good benefits. The culture is fantastic, but that varies greatly from team to team. Overall it was good until management shifted and started doing a bunch of ridiculous reorganizations.

    Cons

New management doesn't know or care what customers want. The process is full of cruft. Teams aren't rewarded for exceeding targets, instead they're chastised regularly by executive leadership.

    Advice to Management

Replace Pat and bring back somebody who understands the market.
