Negative Outlook
No opinion of CEO

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

Pros

Salary is great, environment is pretty

Cons

Back-stabbing is unbelieveable. Mostly from the 'entrenched' employees (5+ years at the company). People literally go to your manager and complain about things they easily could handle directly with you. Some managers seem to enjoy sharing this with you and thus getting themselves in the middle of a grade school spat. My former manager was classic "queen bee" type. Gossipy and evil. Current one seems to enjoy drama too, though is a nicer person. Has a second-in-command that runs the show to his own liking, literally adding and subtracting people from the group meeting calendar on a weekly basis depending on whether he's ticked off at you or not. This is NOT the place to start a career, nor the place to advance in mid-career. If you're at the end of your career, have a thick
skin, and don't give a flip about anything but the salary, come on in.

Advice to Management

Set standards of professional behavior and hold people to them.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - smart people
    - acceptance of creative thoughts & new ideas
    - innovation

    Cons

    - no idea how to move around or try different roles in the company
    - pay is not the best but it is okay
    - there is a lot of grey and you have to learn to work with ambiguity
    - promotions are hard to come by

    Advice to Management

    - Managers need to be taught how to develop their employees or help them get to their desired paths.
    - the Global Talent Development Team at VMware is great but if your direct manager isn't in line with what the company is pushing out then it will not reach the employee
    - the number one things I'm unhappy with is the lack of opportunity to try a different role or to move up in the company. growth is so hard to find here.
