I have been working at VMware full-time (More than 5 years)

Pros

VMware as a company is great. Superb innovations from most corners of the company. The engineers are super smart. The campus has been fully updated and it is beautiful. The company is incredibly environmentally conscious, this is great!!

Cons

The EUC management team continues to be not up to par. There are several VPs who should be fired immediately for the following reasons:
1. Frequent and regular deceptive practices and lying to employees
2. Unbelievably blatant cronyism favoring certain employees
3. Lack of market understanding. Still completely clueless about why the competition is leading
4. Sabotage employees career growth because of self insecurity
5. Absolutely no accountability on performances

Therefore, strongly recommend that you do not join the EUC business unit at all cost until they once again clean house.

Advice to Management

Senior management at EUC had better fix the internal problems ASAP or risk losing some of the best talents. The morale within the team is at an all time low due to the fact that a couple of VPs are all about themselves and their cronies. These VPs are all too willing (and are already working) to jeopardize the entire business in order to satisfy their own benefits.

Enough talk about how Jack Welch should be the model. Time to take concrete actions. Eliminate these bozo VPs before it is too late.

I have been working at VMware full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great access to technology and chance to work with some very smart people. Good Compensation. Company is always so good exposure to ecosystem and like-minded products.

    Cons

Internal processes are not mature at all due to rapid growth. Not enough collaboration yet between internal (business units, development) and client-facing roles (consultants, sales engineers). Employee enablement for growth is very sparse. Middle management not effective. Depending on the group you work for, can be very cliquey.

    Advice to Management

Need to clarify personal / career growth tracks @ VMware. Knowing the "what" is ok, however need to expand on the "how to get there". Especially there are some very mixed messages on PSO side (enablement is supported, however keep utilization high. Register for classes, however more often than not enrollment is dropped at last moment).

I worked at VMware full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great benefits
    Good Salary
    ESPP and Stock option grants
    Fully stocked kitchen
    Really nice gym and campus

    Cons

Very, very political environment. Everybody fights for dominance and plays mind games with employees and contractors. The only way to survive is to find a "Godfather" who will protect and nurture you.
Best survival strategy is to say "yes" to everybody with little bit of power and "no" to everybody else.
HR uses performance reviews and ratings as a weapon to use against you when the opportunity strikes. If you align yourself with the right people, you don't need to worry about it.

    Advice to Management

Too late to improve the culture. Best thing will be to look at the results and not "like-ability" of you mid to senior level management.
Shut down failing businesses and fire those who consistently miss their targets.
