I worked at VWR full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

The office had a great family vibe. Co-workers were willing to answer any questions you had that would help with your job performance. Great opportunities for growth with or within the business that the company dealt with.

Cons

There unfortunately had favoritism, when it came to promotions. The office where I worked has been closed, but the warehouse is relocating to Visalia, California.

Advice to Management

Keep business decisions business and not personal.

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

the industry is extremely stable - this is a cash cow - every 5 or so years a private equity will buy it, milk it and sell it...
nice work environment at headquarters (not at DCs)
    access to gym
    free fruit

    Cons

very political with silos ( at least in NA, not sure how Europe is)
low pay (i am not sure how you can try to recruit talent by underpaying people)

if you want to be in a company where you just want to "get by" by doing a mediocre job for 20+ years... this is your place... i think it is both a good and a bad sign when you see employees who have been doing the same job for 20,30 years... the good is because you know that they are in a safe and stable company... the bad is because most of them have been doing the same job for years and years without thinking twice about trying to improve and change things in the organization.

    Advice to Management

Think about bringing in fresh people who are willing to change and improve things. Also, try to have the different groups within the organization talk more.

    Pros

    VWR's salaries were quite fair.

    Cons

Management forgets that this position may only be a jumping-off point. Not much room for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Understand that employees are not married to a menial customer service job.
