I worked at Valley Presbyterian Hospital full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

The benefits are pretty good, CEO is very approachable.

    Cons

Not using electronic records yet!! Low level of education among much of the staff, and the bureaucracy means changes are implemented without staff input much of the time.

    Advice to Management

Better employees lead to better workplaces. Focus on hiring talented, motivated people who want to work in healthcare, and then listening to them.

    Pros

The leadership really wants to make this a great hospital and are dedicated to figuring out how to with leadership development opportunities and tools to help staff succeed.

Staff get to share and develop ways to make their jobs better and because it's an independent hospital, they don't have to go through the bureaucratic red tape of organization approval. On the other end, they aren't tied in to deadlines, goals, and practices that may not work for them because the overseeing organization is dictating their actions.

The positive work environment I get to experience outweighs the con by miles!

    Cons

It's location in a lower income area makes it difficult to live nearby. However, they really care about this community so I don't see them moving anytime soon.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work with your true transparency and "walking the talk"!
