    Pros

Having worked at different psychiatric hospitals in the area, I can say that this one is the best overall. The benefits are great - they give you plenty of PTO, without having to earn it per hours worked like some places. The health insurance is a great price. Coworkers are great - lots of knowledgeable mental health specialists, and RNs who have a real interest in psychiatric nursing. Vanderbilt pays for your board certification testing, which is around $300-$400. It's typically pretty easy to get in touch with a doctor over the mobile heartbeat app, and they have an MD in-house 24/7. The social workers and pharmacists are good as well. Admissions and discharges are very easy compared to anywhere else I've worked. The parking situation is okay, you do have to park in the west garage and pay a fee, but it's only a 5 minute walk to VPH. The pay is fair, with raises 1-2x per year.

    Cons

One thing I've noticed is that staffing tends to be shotty, especially during 2nd shift. People leave and replacements are not found immediately, people call in sick and then it's short staffed. In either case you can't really predict that. Shift report takes a long time and you stay until everyone is done. There are some problems now and then with admissions coming up back to back during busy times (med pass).
