As elsewhere, postdoctoral salaries are significantly lower than industry jobs, etc Your success highly depends on the research group that you join You have to be a good scientist, and there is a luck element in the research you do as well As elsewhere, postdoc period is a ticking clock, and there is a lot of stress associated with making steady progress with research/publication There may be some specific cons about VUMC that others would notice, but they don't really come to mind, I think VUMC/Vanderbilt are comparable to many other leading research institutions
