Pros

The one-on-one environment makes me feel like I'm teaching. All of the materials that I purchased for teaching and also use for tutoring (books, subscriptions, internet at home...) all were able to be deductions this year, as I am considered a sole proprietor and receive a 1099 from Varsity Tutors. The new tax laws treat sole proprietors like LCC is we pull in more than 4k a year from a job. I was thrilled to see all the write-offs I had. I am so used to just spending my money and not thinking about every getting any credit for it. I sure did this year!

Cons

Sometimes parents are not consistent with tutoring or have respect for your appointments/time. I have had parents get upset that my hours were not flexible to every day, all day ready for their kids.
