I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 10 years)

Pros

Verizon is a Fast Paced, Technology Savvy, Latest in Technology advances company.
Management force is well educated, althought some old managers are still at work with odd ideas. Good benefits, great management school for yourself

Cons

Totally stockholder driven (Stock return and performance is #1 priority, Employees comes second or third).
Lateral moves limited to location. Promotions extremely difficult after Mid management.

I have been working at Verizon full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    - Benefits
    - On average - good salary
    - good people (mostly)
    - remote work

    Cons

    - too many free riders
    - every year employees are being let go
    - constant reorgs around dec/jan timeframe

    Advice to Management

There's so much wrong with this company, I don't know where to start. Focus on improving what is there - stop introducing new tools, processes and hiring more employees after firing a couple as a result of reorgs! Instead of having everyone turn a single screw, retain and re-tRain employees to understand and take responsibility for end-to-end processes and solutions. Fire the free riders and trust the employees more than do their jobs and which go above and beyond for the company! Recognize them! Praise them! President's Club is a joke... so are Sales quotas! Focus on hand-offs and current employee skills. Finally - take risks! Define the market instead of following it with a huge gap (not talking about Verizon Wireless....but everything else.....).
